The 4th Annual Southern Tier Outdoor Recreation Exposition is scheduled to be held on October 9-10, 2010 in Bath with a variety of wildlife shows, exhibitors, and interactive activities. The show host, Wilkins RV, Inc. on Route 415, offers his  building, grounds and pond to the public for this amazing exposition.

Cornell Cooperative Extension of Steuben County has organized the event as an educational experience to promote awareness and stewardship of our natural resources, to encourage participation in outdoor activities, and to support local products and services. Families and sportsmen are invited to attend, and area businesses and agencies are encouraged to participate.

Several activities are planned at the show for the public:
  • The Bowhunter Challenge offers a competitive and entertaining 3-D experience for archers 14 years and older. Bring your own bow to the show and tackle nine moving 3-D target stations to compete for prize packages which value up to $500. The competition is free, but bowhunters are taken first come first serve, so get your name on the list early on show day.
  • The Companion Retriever Hunting Challenge will be held on Sunday, Oct 10. The event was created and will be judged by well known retriever trainer Jim Beverly. Only six dogs are accepted for each of two levels which consist of single hunting scenario retrievals and more difficult hunting situations. Handlers must be at least 12 years old. Cost is $20 per dog/handler team and trophies and prizes will be awarded. Register online soon before all the spots are filled.
  • A Venison Chili Cookoff will allow local "chefs" the opportunity to share samples with show visitors and gain bragging rights that their recipe is the best.
  • A Youth Fishing Derby will offer kids an opportunity to handle a fishing pole and win great prizes!
  • Try your hand at the Hunting Simulator - whether it be deer, clay targets or a shooting gallery, this virtual hunting experience is always a hit.
There will be exhibitors offering every item from hunting gear to tractors to tee-shirts. There will be charters, crafts and seasonings. Booths are available both indoors and out for fees ranging from $100 up. Families will be delighted by the wildlife shows: Bwana Jim provides three shows per day with his unique critters. Talons: A Bird of Prey will soar their hawks and owls through the crowd twice each day. A chainsaw carver will fashion two trees into something delightful right before the crowd.  Food will be be available for sale each day.

Dedicated sportsmen will be fascinated with a number of professional seminars - all offered free of charge. Come learn about the New York Black Bear, find out how to manage scent elimination, check out how a dog tracks a real demo blood trail for a wounded deer, and learn about bowhunting, wild game cooking, hiking and much more.

The show has drawn thousands of visitors in past years. Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both days. A $5.00 admission charge per car offers free parking, show program, seminars, activities and wildlife shows. Take Exit 38 off Route I-86 and follow signs to Wilkins.
