Jim’s seminars covers how a dog thinks and learns, picking a pup or litter and his successful training techniques and attitude.  He shows what the retriever does when hunting and demonstrates how to start a puppy or dog in the training process.  He will have two dogs at the show representing the top lines and most popular retriever breeds in the US:   A pup, Luke, from Zeus, a seasoned, well known black lab, and Dakota, a top line, 2 year old Golden Retriever.

Rules for Sunday’s Event at Noon:

Each handler will be given a number for the position they run.  We will run a goose hunting scenario first and when finished, we will run a duck hunting scenario over water.  There will be NO scoring on this event!  The emphasis will be on having fun, enjoying a real hunting type experience and be a learning experience for most.  No professional trainers or dogs currently holding hunt tests or field trial titles will be allowed to run.  No limit on age or experience.  We will be there to help with anything needed.

Each handler will set up with his dog, blow calls and be shooting a 12 gauge popper (blanks) load just as though you were hunting.  We will help each person follow the procedure.  Bumpers (retrieving dummies) will be used.  They will be automatically launched from remote launchers to simulate an incoming bird(s).

Every handler will participate in a prize drawing at the end of the event.  The performance of your dog will not dictate what prize you may win.  Your number will be put into a box, and as your number is picked, you will be able to choose whatever prize is on the table.  Again, we are putting the FUN back into this event and not making it a competition.  You will not run a Hunt Test or Field Trial that will give you any more than a ribbon and points toward a title if that is what your priority is.

Here is a list of prizes that have been given out in the past.

  • 6 Dakota floating skimmer mallards
  • Mojo full size spinning wing drake mallard
  • Mojo motion feeder decoy
  • DTSystem R.A.P.T. e-collar
  • McD Camo waterproof parka
  • Gift card from Cabela’s
  • One framed professional artist drawing
  • More coming each day…
